Rebuilding lives after the Philippines fire

Thank you to everyone who gave to the Philippines Appeal and helped rebuild the lives of those in West Habog-habog.

On the 28th January 2023, residents of West Habog-habog, Iloilo City, woke up to the smell of smoke and panicked voices of their neighbours. The fire spread quickly, driving them out of their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Many ran in fear, some jumped into the nearby river to save their lives.

The fire was one of the biggest in the city in years. A total of 1139 individual people were affected and 263 houses were totally damaged in the fire. While no lives were lost in the fire (stated by CSWDO), their livelihoods were lost, and the challenge was now how to start over.

On 1st February, Signpost International launched an appeal to help our partner Signpost Philippines Inc provide food and shelter for families.

Signpost Philipines also provided art therapy classes for children and distributed school supplies. Furthermore, they distributed water tubs, housing materials and helped with the construction of new homes.

Signpost International handed over all operations
to Signpost Philippines Inc. in October 2021.
