The Dundee Virtual Kiltwalk 2020

On Tuesday we received the sad news from the Kiltwalk that the 2020 Dundee Kiltwalk has been cancelled.

“We have been closely monitoring the pandemic situation and after reviewing the latest Government updates on large gatherings, it is with heavy hearts that we have made the very difficult but well considered decision to cancel the 2020 Dundee Kiltwalk, scheduled for August 16th. Ensuring the safety of our walkers and everyone involved in Kiltwalk is our top priority. Factors surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak and a closing window of available dates to reschedule, due to reduced hours of daylight in late 2020, makes it impossible to reschedule the Dundee event. In true Kiltwalk sprit, we have developed a new way for you to fundraise for the charities you care about! On the weekend of the 3rd -5th July, we are turning the Dundee Kiltwalk into our first ‘Virtual Kiltwalk’. You take on your Kiltwalk challenge during your walk, daily exercise, and every penny you raise will be paid out to your chosen charity early, plus a 50% top up from the Hunter Foundation. Simply don a bit of tartan and complete your Kiltwalk challenge, a Kiltwalk for you to complete separately, together.”

At Signpost International we are extremely grateful to the Kiltwalk for all of their hard work during these challenging months. We really appreciate this novel idea to support charities and we are looking forward to being part of the first virtual Kiltwalk.

The length of the original Mighty Stride Dundee Kiltwalk was 26 miles and although we can’t take part in the full Kiltwalk, Team Signpost International want to complete 26 miles together. We are inviting you to join us so we can complete the virtual Kiltwalk together. The distance you choose to walk can be as short or as long as you wish and can be done in a number of different ways at any time between the 3rd and 5th of July. You could walk into your local forest, round your local park, round your own garden or even round your front room! You can be as creative as you want, just do what works best for you! Whatever distance you walk will contribute to Team Signpost’s 25 miles. In the words of the Kiltwalk organisers, this is a Kiltwalk for you to complete separately, together! By walking for Team Signpost you will be helping us to continue to challenge poverty nationally and internationally.
