COVID-19 in the countries we work in overseas – update 4

At Signpost International we want to continue to keep you up to date with the current Coronavirus situation in the countries and communities we work in throughout the world.

At the time of publishing (1:30pm on Thursday 9th April 2020) this is the current situation in the countries we work in.

Uganda

There are now 53 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Uganda and no confirmed cases in the communities we work in.

Restriction measures have been tightened further this week with people no longer being able to exercise in public and only able to do so within their own homes. The government have also banned all gatherings of five or more people in a bid to ensure social distancing.

Tanzania

There have been 25 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tanzania and one confirmed death, with no confirmed cases in the communities we work in. The government have increased testing facilities across the country with new laboratories set up. The president of Tanzania has come under criticism for encouraging people to go out and pray in churches and mosques throughout the country.

The Philippines

There are now 4,076 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with a death toll of 203 in the Philippines. The country remains in lockdown with community quarantine still in place to restrict movement in an attempt to stem the spread of the virus. There have been no confirmed cases in the neighbourhood of West Habog Habog where we work.

Thank you for all your prayers and we ask you to continue praying for an end to this virus throughout the world and for all the countries and the communities we work with.
