The Green Bean Co.

6th year pupils making waves with their new business

A group of 6th year pupils from Grove Academy are doing some incredible things through Young Enterprise. To be able to take part in an international business competition, they were challenged to set up their own business and trade as a company for 6 months.

They began raising funds by doing a 10km walk starting at the V&A in Dundee to be able to set up as a company and buy their raw products.

The business

Seeing the problems of waste and the lack of ethical practice, the group was passionate about starting a business that would address these issues. They decided to create coffee gift sets that include Fairtrade coffee and biodegradable mugs made from recycled bamboo fibre. They aim to use their products to encourage consumers to think of the environment and sustainable alternatives to using take away cups from their favourite coffee shop. The Green Bean Co. is aiming to help cut down on the 2.5 billion non-recyclable takeaway cups that end up in landfill in the UK every year.

100% percent of The Green Bean Co.’s profits are going to Signpost International projects.

We want to say a big thank you to the group for choosing Signpost International as the charity that will benefit from their business. It’s fantastic to see such inspiring young people create such a ethical and creative business!

Support them at the Overgate in Dundee on Saturday the 8th of December where they will be selling their products from 10am – 3pm. Find them upstairs outside Debenhams.
